Solarize Energy is a leading solar project developer based in Brantford, Ontario. We are in the process of installing more than 1 MW of roof-mounted projects (see pictures and references to our current projects on this page) from a project pipeline which exceeds 5MW. We also have more than 30 MW of ground-mounted projects under development (announcements to come shortly).

The Ontario FIT Program provides a 20‑year guaranteed contract at fixed prices. The parameters of the FIT Program will be reviewed in October-2011 (and the offered FIT tariffs are expected to be revised downward) but contracts in place prior to this review will maintain their current prices … so it is imperative to initiate the process of project development and the FIT application process as soon as possible in order to maximize the probability of securing the current FIT tariff.

Together with our strategic partners, Solarize offers a one-stop shop for those interested in installing solar panels on their properties. From the technical side, we manage the initial assessment and FIT application process; we design, engineer and install the solar system; and we commission and monitor the operation. From the financial side, we have the capability to own (in a leasing arrangement) or to enter into a partnership arrangement (in a partnership with site owners). We also set up financing structures and arrange for financing that can reduce the payback period to 2-3 years.

We offer three ownership models:

1. Joint Venture
Solarize provides project design, engineering and installation. Host partner provides space for the installation (and receives commensurate share of revenue). Solarize and host partner jointly own the solar panels and provide shared equity funding to supplemented debt financing provided by third-party.

2. Roof Lease - Revenue Share
Solarize provides project design and engineering, project installation and financing. Host partner provides space for the installation and receives commensurate share of revenue. Solarize owns and manages the project.

3. Install - Turnkey
Solarize provides project design, engineering and installation. Host partner provides space for the installation and funding. Host partner owns the project. Solarize can also provide: (1) post-commissioning monitoring and maintenance, and (2) assistance to host partner in securing financing.

Effectively we convert existing roofs from a cost centre to a profit centre - and create a 20-year ‘annuity payment’ (paid to the host partner). In addition, we offer the host partner the opportunity to enter into a joint venture with us on the ownership of the solar project.

This is a unique opportunity to benefit from a low-risk business model and to diversify revenue streams. With revenue backed by a government-guaranteed contract and the equipment under warranty for 25 years, this is a low-risk project with a stable revenue stream and rates of return in excess of 15% per year! In addition, our financing structures generate a significant tax shield which can shelter other business income and effectively reduce payback periods to around 3-4 years.

The host partner also benefits from ‘Green Branding’ due to the visible solar panels on the roof and the associated CO2 reductions. You will contribute to the fight against climate change and help Ontario diversify its sources of energy.

Solar technology is proven and tested for local conditions and has an expected lifetime of 35+ years. Our selected solar panels are investment-grade:

  • 25 years power output warranty;
  • lowest power tolerance (5W; 2%);
  • strong framed module, passing mechanical load test of 5400 Pa to withstand heavier snow load.
